I don’t know any musician who has more dance videos than me — or even the same amount.

Over the years, I’ve filmed and shared thousands of them. Freestyle sessions in the living room, outdoors, in the park, at home after recording a new track, older footage re-cut with new music, short bursts of movement that last 15 seconds or several minutes. Some are pure energy, some are relaxed, some mix a bit of fitness with the groove. Almost none of them follow a fixed choreography.

That’s not an accident. Music is made to be danced.

A track can exist on its own, of course. It can be listened to while driving, working, or sitting still. But for me, the real life of a song starts when the body answers it. The rhythm becomes footsteps, the bass becomes weight shifts, the guitar line becomes an arm or a spin that wasn’t planned five seconds earlier. When I finish a new piece — whether it starts as a guitar improvisation or something built for the dance floor — the natural next step is almost always the same: put it on and move.

Most musicians release music and then wait for other people to dance to it (or hope they will). I’ve spent two decades doing both sides myself: writing and producing the music, then filming myself dancing to it, again and again. Old videos get new soundtracks. New tracks get old footage. The movement stays free; the music changes the feeling. That’s the core of what I’ve been calling Donatello Vibe Dance — no rules, no routine to learn, just the track as the starting point and whatever your body does next.

I keep doing it because the combination feels incomplete any other way. A song without the possibility of movement is only half finished. A dance without a strong groove underneath it loses half its reason to exist. When the two meet, even for a short clip, something simple happens: the music stops being only sound and becomes something you inhabit.

If you make music, try it. Film yourself (or someone else) actually dancing to the track instead of just talking about how “danceable” it is. If you dance, try putting on something you wrote or something that simply feels right and letting the steps stay unplanned. Either way, the point is the same.

Music is made to be danced. I’ve got the videos to show it — thousands of them — and I’m still making more.

Drop one of yours in the comments if you feel like it. Doesn’t have to be polished. Just the music and the movement.

Let’s keep both going.
